This Nacho is Enormous!

One of the most famous restaurants in the Albuquerque area is Sadies. Sadies is a large moderately priced restaurant with two locations: One on the East side, and one in the Northeast Heights. Sadie’s biggest claim to fame is their salsa, which they mass produce, and can be found at most grocery stores, as well as other states! Their restaurants have a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and the service is speedy and attentive. Although I had eaten their on many occasions, I had never indulged in their Nachos…Until now.

Sadies offers Nachos in two separate sizes, small and large, with a choice of chicken or beef. The Large nacho comes on a massive plate, and towers higher than any nacho I have seen before. It is comprised of a body of chips, covered in meat, plain jalapenos, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and a liberal scoop of sour cream and guacamole.

When I ordered the Nachos, the waitress informed me that they were monstrous in size, and recommended that I stick with the small. In my infinite Nacho slavery I respectfully declined and reassured her that I was up to the challenge. Even though I had been adequately warned, I was still shocked by the size of these nachos. For a mere 10 dollars, the size alone can’t be beat. I was stuffed before i finished 1/4th of this feast. They are a colorful and attractive Nacho, and they smell great. However, I did have one complaint before I began to indulge, and that was that they used raw sliced Jalapenos, not the pickled variety that is standard with Nachos. I don’t quite understand why restaurants do this. I really don’t like raw jalapenos, and they do a good job of stealing the flavor away from the other ingredients. Plus, all of my research suggests that the original nacho used pickled jalapenos. After reconciling this little setback, I dove right in, and let me tell you, they were delicious. First thing I noticed was how great the meat tasted. It was flavorful, and also contained small potato slices that were a pleasant surprise. The meat was found throughout the Nacho, and was extremely plentiful. The chips are made by Sadies, and are extremely tasty. The cheese and sour cream tasted great. The Guacamole however, was over salted and disappointing (but not bad). One problem I had with the Sadies Nacho was that the Cheese was only on the top layer. Although the other toppings made their way throughout the nacho, the cheese seemed oddly restricted to the top. Despite this, the nacho did a great job of maintaining delicious no matter what area of the dish was being consumed. I really enjoyed this dish, and recommend it as a full meal for 4 people who don’t mind sharing. This is a nacho for the hungry, the carnivorous, and the budget consious.
