Twisters Grill is a popular fast food chain that specializes in New Mexican cuisine. Its primarily located throughout Albuquerque, but there are a few locations in Colorado. Their fast quality service has earned it high marks with many locals, and its massive expansion serves as a testament to its success. Twisters offers an impressive array of menu items, all of which are served at affordable prices. Their famous menu item is their “Twister Burrito”, an evolution of the now famous “Disaster Burrito.” Although all of their menu is worth trying, this burrito is unique in that it comes covered in curly fries and smothered in either Green or Red Chili. I can’t lie, this is one of my favorite fast food restaurants in the world, and the most difficult decision I face when I dine at Twisters is whether I should order the Twister Burrito, or the Nachos. Since this quirky blog is devoted to the artistic nacho creations, you can guess which I ordered at my most recent visit:

Twisters offers two styles of Nachos for the convenience of dining patrons: A mini Nacho, and a Nacho Supreme. The Mini Nacho is simple and consists of Chips covered in beans, liquid cheese, and jalapenos. The Nacho Supreme is the real deal though, and comes with the works. Its comprised of a bed of Chips covered in Beans, Cheese, Jalapenos, Tomatoes, Sour Cream and Guacamole. A protein selection of either ground beef or chicken is offered at an additional $1, and you are often asked if you want nacho cheese (liquid) or shredded cheese, with no difference in charge.

I’m just going to say it outright: Twister’s Nacho Supreme is the best Fast food Nacho I have had the privilege to eat (as of this writing). Twisters has pretty much made all the right choices with this dish, but I must also stress that it needs to be ordered correctly. Even though their liquid cheese is great, I believe true Nachos should be made with shredded Cheese. I also think it should be ordered with their ground beef added. Twister’s has mastered the spicing of ground beef, and their meat is a compliment to all of their dishes, especially the Nachos. Unlike a considerable number of previous nachos reviewed on this blog, Twisters offers their nacho with both sour cream and guacamole…At NO extra Charge! All the rest of their ingredients are top notch, and the distribution is phenomenal. There are few chips that escape uncovered in deliciousness, and there is often plenty of excess for the chip to make use of anyhow. This nacho is also comparable in size to some of the $12+ Nachos offered at high cost restaurants. It would not be foolish to say it could feed two people well, or 1 person to excess. I have no real suggestions for this Nacho, and hope it never changes. If you are in the Albuquerque area, and you are having a Nacho fix, this will solve all of your problems.
