The Copper Lounge is a popular bar/restaurant in Albuquerque’s oddly named Edo District (central between University and Broadway). It offers an interesting atmosphere, along with a nice draught list and daily specials. Their menu is standard Pub fare, but the quality can vary. I don’t frequent this bar often, mostly because of its location. However, in my quest for Nacho absolution, I decided to give it a shot.
The Copper Lounge offers one form of nachos: the Nachos Grande. The Nachos Grande is a layer of chips covered with Beans, shredded cheddar, green chili, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, black olives, and a choice of Beef or Chicken. Despite its omission in the menu, this Nacho also comes with Jalapenos and a side of salsa.
When these Nachos arrived, I didn’t know what to think. The Side of salsa felt a little cheesy to me. The overall presentation of the Nachos felt a little “home-made” as well. After taking a few bites I have to admit I was underwhelmed. Its not that they were terrible, but they felt like something I could have made in five minutes at home. The lack of Guacamole was upsetting, and the toppings felt sub standard. But they weren’t terrible, and I wasn’t upset about ordering them. I have had worse nachos (ahem, O’Neils) but I have had far better for cheaper. If you are at the Copper Lounge, order something else.
